New for 2014! The Newcomer Award

BONN. The “2014 Fritz Höger Award for Excellence in Brick Architecture” is now open for submissions. For the third time, this internationally renowned architecture award will be presented by the “Initiative Bauen mit Backstein” (Brick Building Initiative), once again with the support of the Association of German Architects (BDA).

No matter whether the submission has achieved great success or features brilliant details, the competition is seeking contemporary or timeless constructions, in which, during the planning or building phase, the potential of traditional brick construction has been exploited. Project ideas may also be submitted to the competition. The decisive factor when presenting a project idea is the role played by brick in the overall context of the project or the use of the material itself.

“By awarding the newcomer prize we hope to offer the next generation of architects a forum to present projects and thoughts on the topic of brick architecture. Against the background of the material’s sustainability and its artistic possibilities, we are very excited about receiving many creative and innovative works”, explained Ernst Buchow, Chairman of Initiative Bauen mit Backstein.

Information on the 2014 Fritz Höger Award for Excellence in Brick Architecture:

The Fritz Höger Award for Excellence in Brick Architecture, awarded for the first time in 2008, is presented every three years and is now one of the major architecture prizes in Germany with more than 340 national and international entries being submitted most recently. The competition has been supported by the Association of German Architects BDA in partnership since 2011.
